Rescue isn’t just a moment – it’s a lifetime of love.
The reasons a dog requires emergency foster vary from dog to dog.
If a dog is being adopted, we will always try to get them into foster care and out of kennel life, so that they can experience life in a home.
A dog may not be able to cope with kennel life.
Long term foster
There are dogs that may be available on long term foster. These generally tend to be older dogs with very little hope of adoption.
What does fostering entail:
The dog gets to live in a family home but is still registered to the canil. All medical bills are covered by the canil.

Teddy is ten years old, weighing 10KG and has been at the canil for a few months. He came in underweight and has not gained much weight since. Blood tests and a SNAP test were taken and he tested positive for leishmaniasis.
Leishmaniasis can be managed with daily medication and blood tests every six months to monitor the condition.
Two of my dogs have leishmaniasis and they live a good life.
Teddy is a calm dog who gets on with other dogs.
We can cat test him if required. He is a gentle little soul.
He needs to find a lifetime foster home in Tomar or surrounding areas and we will provide his medication and the municipal vet will offer medical care, if needed.
Can anyone help Teddy by offering a home

We are now looking for long term foster care for Emy as she has become quite anxious, so she needs a home where she can decompress and learn that life can be fun.
Emy was picked up on the streets with her pup, Abel and came into the municipal canil in November 24. She was a good mum to Abel and he has now been adopted. Now it’s her turn to shine and find a great home to thrive in.
She was probably one a lead for the first time today and did some twirling, but settled down. More lead training will be needed. Emy has the potential to be a great addition to any home. She’s a little girl.
Emy is sterilised and will be microchipped and receive a rabies vaccination.
She can be adopted in Portugal, the EU and the UK. Home check and transportation costs apply to adopters outside of Portugal.
There is no adoption fee.
If you would like to adopt Emy or visit her at the canil, send us a message.

Anita was returned to the municipal canil in Tomar today after being adopted seven months ago.
She was terrified.
She’s ten years old and weighs less than 5KG.
Anita loves to be with people and gets on well with cats, but no dogs please.
If you can help by providing foster care, we will supply her food, accessories and she will be covered by the municipal vet for any health issues arising, although she appears to be in good health.
Send us a message if you can help and we will provide all the information necessary.
Please share this snuggle bug and help us to get Anita into a loving home.
