Adopting a dog in Portugal.

All dogs leaving the municipal kennels in Tomar, Portugal will be micropchipped, receive a rabies vaccination and be sterilised. If adopting a puppy, they will have received puppy vaccines and the dog will be sterilised when old enough, around 7 months.
Sterilisation is mandatory for all dogs adopted from the kennels. This surgery is performed by the municipal vet at no cost, or the adopter can choose to use their own vet, cost paid by the adopter.
All dogs will be issued with a booklet (boletim) with information relating to the dog. The dog will be registered on the Portuguese database, SIAC with the new owner’s details.
Dog Rehoming can get adopted dogs tested for leishmaniasis, tick fever and heartworm. If a dog tests positive for leishmaniasis or tick fever, the municipal vet will commence treatment.
There are no costs involved when adopting a dog.
We can help with matching the perfect dog to suit our adopters and work closely with them throughout the adoption process.
